A Grappling Hook is an equipable item that can be used to swing across chasms or reach elevated locations when equipped in the Grappling Hook slot of the Character screen.
Obtaining
The recipe is unlocked by obtaining Shroud Spores 
(looted from defeated Fell enemies) for the first time. It is then crafted at the Workbench.
Crafting a Grappling Hook is the objective of the Blacksmith quest 
Grappling Hook.
WARNING: Crafting the Grappling Hook before being prompted to do so by the Blacksmith can cause the quest to become unobtainable.
Upgrades
An Improved Grappling Hook 
can be crafted by the Carpenter after completing the Alchemist quest The Alchemist's Rumors.
