Opening the door to the Night Sanctum was easy enough. They don't directly teach you about arcane trickery at the Cromwell Institute, but the forbidden library section is never guarded... and why have a forbidden section, if not to allow curious students to make it the focus of their evening elective?

I'm surprised not to have found Ancient weaponry here, but our adversary is slick. If my studies have taught me anything, their weapon must be hidden behind a different night door.

They're gambling on wasting our time with riddles until we expire, drawing out the conflict... But I'd wager they didn't expect a graduate with a penchant for cracking codes.

So bet it all on red.

These Night Sanctums are nothing like I thought... and maybe worse, nothing like the institute or generals said they would be.

I fear I shouldn't be here, but the sensation is strangely new. It's different from lingering in the forbidden library, sneaking out of the institute past bedtime, or gambling my allowance at the parlor.
I'm besmirching something pure by being here, as though my presence disturbs the serenity of the night itself.

And even worse, I'm failing. Failing to see something my superiors want me to find. I hear their orders echo in my head, commanding me to dig further... to find a threat. A weapon. A justification for more preliminary strikes, or desecration. And I just don't know if that thing even exists.

What if we miscalculated our odds and misread our opponent? What if all of this is wrong?

How can the night sky stay calm when it faces a sea of liars?

I feel like I'm seeing the stars for the first time. As if a dark, velvet blanket hsa been lifted from my eyes, allowing me to bear witness.

There was never an ancient weapon here.
We were always intruders.
What else do they not want me to know?

All these years, wasted by blindness
Sneaking past the rules of the physical world, not realizing my mind was captured just the same
I considered myself cunning while betting blindly on the cards I was handed... but it's a fool's game to share the table with liars and cheats.

I have to disappear
I have to stop this madness, this indoctrination
And I can't leave any clues or witnesses
They always spell trouble
I known that much at least
