Exploding Fell Critter
Exploding Fell Critters are large, beetle-like Fell that can be found alongside their smaller cousins in mid to late-game Shroud areas.
They patrol their territory with their fellow critters until they spot a threat; upon which they will promptly scurry toward the intruder and self-detonate.
Combat
Exploding Fell Critters fight by rushing toward the nearest player and exploding after a (very) brief delay. This explosion causes heavy damage and can easily lead to a player's death.
When an exploding critter is preparing to explode, a small red ring will appear on the ground around them.
Tips
Exploding critters can be quite tricky to manage while dealing with critter swarms. Here are some tips for doing so:
- Attack from afar with a bow, staff, or explosives; targeting the exploding critters first.
- The critters' explosion damages other enemies as well. You can use this to thin their numbers a bit.
- Do not try to bait the explosion unless you are confident in your timing- the window is extremely short.
Spawning
Exploding Fell Critters first appear in the Nomad Highlands Shroud and can spawn anywhere that normal Critters are found.
In mycelium-covered areas of the Shroud, Critters have a chance to spontaneously pop up from the ground to attack the player. (Exploding Critters are particularly dangerous here, watch out!)
Fell Critter Nests will continuously spawn critters unless destroyed (best done using a felling axe or fire damage).
Both normal Fell Critters and Exploding Fell Critters are summoned frequently during the Fell Critter Queen fight.
Drops
Exploding Fell Critters often drop zero loot, but do have a small chance to drop the critter material appropriate for their biome and/or a small amount of sulfur.
