Animal Husbandry
Animal Husbandry is a new feature implemented in the Souls Of The Frozen Frontier Update. You can craft baits to attempt to tame the animal and make them docile. Afterwards you can bring them back to your base. Provide them with shelter, a bed and a feeder.
If animals are happy and fed they will produce a variety of resources for you to cook new meals. There is also a chance for them to reproduce. You will also find cats and dogs at certain camps and settlements to bring back to your base, they don't provide resources or reproduce.
Taming
Instructions
- Sneak towards an animal and throw the bait in front of them.
- While the animal is eating, sneak closer to pet it.
Pause when the animal discovers you. ?
Back off when the animal is alert. ! - Back off a bit.
Repeat the process until the animal fully trusts you. - Success! Pick the animal up and bring it back home. Build an enclosure, feed it, and provide a sleeping space.
Tips
Ensure you're in an open space and there are no hostile enemies around, they will scare the animal resetting your tame process or kill it. After throwing some bait, be patient and wait for the animal to notice it on the ground and give them time to walk towards it.
As you approach the animal will have a yellow ? above its head, if you get too close a red ! will appear and start to fill up, if it completely fills the animal will get spooked and run from you removing a from its progress.
If you find the loss of tame hearts progress too difficult try changing the Taming Startle Repercussion in World Settings, you have three options: Lose Some Progress, Lose All Progress and Keep Progress.

Animal Bait & Food
Animals require different baits to be tamed. The Farmer can craft these baits for you. After taming them, you must provide shelter and food for them to thrive.
Shelter and Beds
Along with the animals needing a feeder or bowl, they will also need somewhere to sleep. Most enemies are hostile towards animals, so be sure to build something to keep them safe.
Small animals like Goats and Fae Deer will sleep on the Farm Animal Pillow while large animals like the Dune Armadillo and Yak will need a Big Farm Animal Pillow
. Cats and dogs have a unique Cat Pillow
and Dog Pillow
respectively.
Reproducing
If you have two animals of the same species and a spare bed, there is a chance each night that they will produce offpsring (their respective baby animal):
- Baby Goat

- Baby Flightless Redtail
- Baby Dune Armadillo
- Baby Yak
These can be upgraded into their adult versions by holding the interact key (PC: E). Until then, they will stay a baby animal indefinitely.
