Animal Husbandry
Animal Husbandry is a gameplay mechanic that allows players to tame, breed, and care for various pets and wildlife, including Cats, Dogs, Goats, and Yaks. Animals must first be tamed through the use of species-specific Animal Bait, followed by repeated petting while the animal is distracted. After a set number of successful interactions, the animal becomes docile and may be picked up and transported back to the player's Base. Tameable pets and wildlife were first introduced in the Souls Of The Frozen Frontier Update.
Once placed within the Base, animals require both a Sheltered Bed and the appropriate type of Animal Food to remain healthy. When properly cared for, tame wildlife may produce various Crafting Materials, contributing to the player's resource economy. If excess Sheltered Beds are available, there is a chance for compatible wildlife to reproduce. Pets - such as Cats and Dogs — do not yield materials or reproduce, but grant a Paw's Touch buff when petted which grants 25 additional health. A maximum of 128 animals may be placed within the Base at any given time.

The Farmer's quest
Animal Farming serves as an introductory tutorial for taming animals.
How to Tame Animals
- Craft the appropriate species-specific bait at the Farmer.
- Sneak towards the animal until it becomes curious.

If the animal becomes alert, you have gotten too close. Back off immediately!
- Throw the bait and wait until the animal starts eating.
- Sneak up on the animal while it is distracted and get close enough to pet it.
If the animal becomes curious, stop moving immediately and wait for the animal to resume eating.
- Back away and throw another bait.
- Repeat steps 3-5 until you have filled up all the hearts under the animal's health bar.
- Success! Pick up the animal and bring it back to your Base.
Available Animals
The following animals can be tamed:
- Wildlife
- Hophare
(Springlands, Albaneve Summits) - Goat
(Springlands) - Fae Deer
(Revelwood) - Flightless Redtail
(Nomad Highlands) - Dune Armadillo
(Kindlewastes) - Round-Billed Sailer
(Kindlewastes) - Frizzy Goat

(Albaneve Summits) - Capybara
(Veilwater Basin)
- Hophare
There are quests available to tame the Goat, Yak, Capybara, all three Cat variants, and all three Dog variants.
Tips
- Make sure you are in a clear, open area free of hostile enemies. Any nearby threats may disrupt the taming process by scaring or even killing the target animal.
- Immediately back away after petting the animal. This should be done while the petting and heart animations are still playing. You want to create distance between you and the animal so you have enough space to prevent spooking the animal when it resets. If you are too close to the animal when it resets, you will not have enough time to get away while it is alert.
- If losing progress is too difficult, consider adjusting the Taming Startle Repercussion setting in the World Settings. You have three options to choose from: Lose Some Progress, Lose All Progress, and Keep Progress.
Raising Animals
Animals will produce resources when their needs are met. They require both a feeder filled with species-specific food and a sheltered bed. Once these conditions are satisfied, they will periodically generate resources that can be collected by interacting with them. Note that animals remain passive creatures and can be killed by hostile enemies. If they are killed, they can be looted for the same items as their wild counterparts.

Animal Reproduction
If you have two animals of the same species and at least one unassigned bed, there is a chance each night that they will produce offspring (a baby animal of their species):
- Baby Goat

- Baby Frizzy Goat

- Baby Hophare

- Baby Fae Deer

- Baby Flightless Redtail

- Baby Dune Armadillo

- Baby Round-Billed Sailer

- Baby Yak

- Baby Capybara

Baby animals can be upgraded to their adult form by holding the interact key E. Until then, they will remain in their baby form indefinitely.
